We were surprised to find that Aspen has a range of hotel options in terms of price and quality. We have reserved rooms at four hotels that we believe offer the best combination of location, quality and price. These hotels are located in the heart of Aspen and are also within walking distance of Wedding HQ (the Thompson/Bartlett home at 316 S West End). Give Jennie or Tom a call if you would like help with your lodging decision - we know these hotels very well!
*Aspen hotels are often completely sold out 6-8 months in advance and all of our negotiated room rates are only on a space available basis - please book early!*
The Limelight Hotel: modern, 4-star hotel located three blocks from the gondola. Owned by Aspen SkiCo and an all-around fun, fresh, very popular place to stay - tied with The Gant as the nicest of our hotel options. Good for couples, singles and families with a small child. 20% off published rates of Deluxe room categories and higher (e.g., current room rate after discount is $272-290/night for 3-night stay). Rates will go up as availability decreases. The hotel includes a restaurant, apres/lounge/bar, swimming pool, hot tub, in-room dining and fitness room and offers complementary continental breakfast and transportation to and from the Aspen airport. Please either email reservations@limelighthotel.com or call (800) 433-0832 and book under the "Bartlett Finnigan wedding".
The Gant: 4-star hotel nestled in the aspen trees at the base of Aspen Mountain. Located five blocks from the gondola and less than two blocks from Wedding HQ. This hotel is perfect for larger groups, including friends who want to stay together and families. It is in a beautiful, quiet part of town, while still within walking distance to the town center. Every 2BR and 3BR unit has a kitchenette and living room. On-site amenities include pools, hot tubs, cafe/restaurant, fire pit, fitness center, tennis courts and complimentary shuttle service to/from Aspen airport and to town. To book, call The Gant reservations department at (800) 345-1471 and identify yourself as a member of the "Bartlett Finnigan wedding". If you need to discuss your lodging needs, feel free to call Meredith in the reservations department directly at (970) 920-6072. You can also visit www.gantaspen.com and enter the promo code BARFIN16 or click this link to go directly to the reservations page for the wedding block. Guests of our wedding receive a 30% discount if you book before April 30th. At the current rate, with the 30% discount, 2BR/2BA rooms are $374-$465/night and 3BR/3BA rooms are $556-$697/night for a 2-night stay (slightly lower for a 3-night stay).
Aspen Square Condominium Hotel: 3-star hotel located one block from the gondola and two blocks from Wedding HQ. 2 BR available @ $297/night and studio's available @ $190/night under "Bartlett-Finnigan wedding" block - call (800)-862-7736 and ask for reservations and/or Melissa. All rooms, including Studio's, have a kitchenette. 2BR condo's are great for two couples and/or singles who want to share a room. Or for those who are making this a family vacation and bringing the kids. Many, if not all, of the two bedroom condo's also have 2 bathrooms. The rooms are individually owned, so decor varies by room. The hotel includes a main lobby/sitting area, gym, hot tub and swimming pool on site. No in-room dining.
Hotel Durant: 3-star minimalist boutique hotel with modern mountain decor. The rooms are on the smaller side, but the hotel is recently remodeled and located in a quiet part of town while still being within a few blocks of The Limelight Hotel and downtown Aspen. 19 rooms total, ranging from $150-$195/night. Six rooms with a 10% discount are being held for Friday and Saturday nights under "Bartlett-Finnigan wedding" - five Balcony Rooms w/Queen Bed and one Lodge Room w/Queen Bed. Please call (970) 925-8500 to book - no discount will be applied if you reserve online. Additional rooms are available outside of the wedding block to those who book early and the discount will apply if you reference our wedding. A few of the rooms outside of the wedding block are at the "garden level", and have less light, so if that's not your thing be sure to ask about the location of your room. Hotel Durant has a hot tub, small porch and common room/sitting area. No room service or gym. At 8,000+ feet above sea level, a simple walk around town will be a workout!
Sky Hotel (a Kimpton Hotel): Tracey Samuelson, bridesmaid and real life reporter, made headlines in the Bartlett-Finnigan house when she discovered that the Sky Hotel is no longer scheduled to be demolished this year. This is a hip, colorful hotel at the base of the mountain. *Disclaimer that the rooms are apparently small.* Current published rates are $229/night for a king room and $269/night for a room with two queen beds. Unfortunately, no wedding discount is available at this time. Go to www.theskyhotel.com to book or call 877-713-7467 and ask for Deb (if you mention the Bartlett-Finnigan wedding she might be able to help you with rates).
Recommended Luxury Hotel Options: The St. Regis (for those who have Starwood points to use or are just basic ballers) and The Little Nell (next to the gondola with high-end restaurants on-site and all of the bells and whistles).
If for some reason you need to stay at a place outside of our negotiated hotel options, please give Jennie or Tom a call to get input.
Rentals:
Check VRBO & Airbnb. We can also recommend a property manager should you need help finding a home/condo to rent. The Aspen area has four mountains - Aspen/Ajax, Highlands, Snowmass and Buttermilk. If you are renting a house make sure that it is actually in the Town of Aspen, versus at Snowmass or another village. Aspen is best navigated on foot and a car is not needed for our wedding weekend. Transportation will be provided to any wedding-related events outside of town and every other activity will be within walking distance of the recommended hotels. If you have any questions about the location of a rental house, give Jennie or Tom a call.
Unless you are driving from your originating location, there are two travel options to reach Aspen:
Fly + Drive: Fly to Denver and drive from Denver to Aspen. You can rent a car or book a ride with Colorado Mountain Express (CME), a shuttle service from Denver International Airport to Aspen. The drive takes about 4 hours via car and 5 hours +/- if you take the CME shuttle. A car is not needed for the wedding weekend, so unless you plan to spend time in the Rockies before or after the wedding (which we encourage!), the rental car can be used solely for the drive from/to Denver and returned/picked up at the Aspen airport. There are two general routes to choose from if you drive from Denver to Aspen in the summer/early fall - 1) I-70 west from Denver to Glenwood Springs and CO-82 from Glenwood Springs to Aspen, and 2) I-70 west to CO-91 south to CO-24 through Leadville and finally to CO-82 west to Aspen (enters Aspen on the opposite side of town as route #1). Note that route #2 can be faster but goes through Independence Pass (12,000+ foot elevation). There should not be snow at Independence Pass during the first week of September, but be sure to double-check with the Colorado Department of Transportation to make sure that the Pass is open before you head west.
-or-
Fly: Fly to Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (airport code: ASE). United, American and Delta all offer flights into Aspen. At this time, the only direct flights to Aspen during the summer and fall seasons are from Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago and possibly Houston and/or Atlanta. Unfortunately, the only direct flight from San Francisco to Aspen is offered by United during the winter season.
Transportation from the Aspen Airport to the Town of Aspen: In addition to the obvious (flights), all rental car drop-off/pick-up is done at the Aspen airport. The airport is less than 4 miles outside of town and is about a 10 minute drive. The Limelight Hotel and The Gant both offer transportation to/from the airport. There are taxi/car services in Aspen (you might want to schedule this in advance to avoid waiting at the airport for too long) as well as free shuttle bus transportation made possible by the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA). The RFTA shuttle stops at the airport about every 30 minutes and drops off at Rubey Park, which is a block from the gondola, two blocks from the Aspen Square Condo Hotel and three blocks from the Hotel Durant.
In addition to services that your hotel may provide, we recommend two local childcare options:
Aspen Babysitting Company (www.aspenbabysittingcompany.com)
Mom's Day Off (www.amomsdayoff.com)
Please make sure that the company/babysitter is aware that the wedding ceremony and reception are being held at Pine Creek Cookhouse and that they need to call the venue (970-925-1044) to reach you in an emergency situation, as cell service is spotty to nonexistent.
